To prepare students to become successful writers, the Elite STEM Primary Academy is moving toward a more comprehensive writing program that will be incorporated through the school-wide Writing Rock Stars initiative. The initiative includes different writing assignments that students must complete every two weeks to allow them more time to engage in the process of writing as a more meaningful experience.
Grade levels decide on the writing topic for each two-week period. This can include topics in any subject area, including math. As students go through the process, they can focus and improve on a specific writing trait that is taught within a given two-week writing project. Traits include: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation.
Campus administration reviews each student’s writing assignment and writes a response or feedback to the student.
Bilingual classes will be expected to turn in English writings beginning in January 2017.
