Diverse cultural writings are covered, with attention given to theme-oriented poetry, short stories, drama, essays and nonfiction and selections from full-length works. A strong emphasis is placed on the development of vocabulary, compositions and research skills, which include but are not limited to comprehending, interpreting, analyzing, and evaluating literary and nonliterary works. Grammar/usage and mechanics skills are integrated throughout the semester. Techniques of oral presentation are taught.
