Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation:
Raul Yzaguirre Elite STEM Primary Campus is honored to be chosen by the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation (BBHLF) to participate in the My Home Library again this year. The BBHLF began hosting the My Home Library program to help children have access to books in their home, and have choice in selecting books, research clearly shows a higher probability that they will read more frequently and achieve at higher levels academically. Unfortunately, books are a luxury that many families cannot afford, yet they are essential to a child's development.
In 2013, Neil and Maria Bush formed the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation to carry forth their mother’s legacy and focus deeply on the literacy cause in the Bush family’s hometown and the nation’s 4th largest, most diverse city. The mission of the Foundation is to improve the quality of life for Houstonians of all ages through the power of literacy—the ability to read, write, speak clearly, and think critically. The Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Houstonians through the power of literacy and the breaking of the intergenerational cycle of low literacy.
